The History of Techsia

From the beginning

Stéphanie Gottlib-Zeh founded Techsia in 2000 following a Ph.D. thesis written for Elf Exploration-Production—"Application of innovative statistical methods (Neural Net Applications) to the characterisation of geological formations using core and log data” and a related market survey. When setting up Techsia, Stéphanie decided to recruit a range of complementary top-class specialists in geosciences, mathematics & statistics, and IT/computer science. She wanted a special emphasis on innovation, quality and proven development speed, thus creating an organisation that would contribute significant added value through its software products. This became evident quite early after Techsia was named the winner of the French National Award for Entrepreneurial Creation (ANVAR) two years in a row with its specialisation in the processing and analysis of well data.

Company positioning

Techsia has positioned itself in the treatment and analysis of well-bore data. Over time, Techsia extended its expertise to specialise in the treatment and interpretation of subsoil data in general: data from oil wells, seismic campaigns, and complex fluid analysis, all with the goal of improving the detection and characterisation of petroleum reservoirs.

Expansion into Techsia's new offices

Techsia’s headquarters was located in the European Centre for Innovative Companies in Montpellier, France until September 2008 when it moved to in its own offices at Parc Euromédecine, France. With 99% of its gross sales derived from export sales, Techsia now employs 53 people.

Techsia, A Schlumberger company

In June 2009, Schlumberger acquired Techsia which continues to operate under its own name. Schlumberger has made Techsia its Center of Excellence for Petrophysical Interpretation software.

What we do

Techsia SA provides software products and consulting services to the oil and gas industry. Its software products include Techlog, an interactive multi-well petrophysical solution, which is designed for the geological interpretation of wellbore data; and Techsis, a 3D petro-seismic interpretation software, which is used to condition the seismic data volumes to the wellbore curves. The company also offers Malcom, which is used for quantitative analysis of GC/MS signals. In addition, it provides petrophysical, seismic interpretation, and process engineering services.

Our products and services

Software programs are offered for sale or lease. All software can be run on Windows XP©, Linux, Unix and Macintosh operating systems. Full support and enhancement contracts are offered to accompany software purchases. Training courses and consultancy assistance with program use can also be provided. Techsia's commitment to investment in Research and Development has allowed it to develop innovative methods and techniques. From its creation, Techsia has offered a range of knowledge-based products, including consulting services (field studies), as well as two specialized scientific software products: Techlog for the characterisation of petroleum reservoirs, and Malcom for the analysis of complex fluids.

Techlog Interactive Suite
Techlog© applies two distinct architectures of neural network, the Indexed and Probabilised Self Organising Map (I.P.S.O.M.) and the Multi-Layer Perceptron (M.L.P.), to the respective tasks of facies characterisation from log and core data and parameter prediction and curve reconstruction. Techsia has developed a specialised workflow to accomplish these tasks, which is embodied within a broad suite of petrophysical interpretation capability.

Techsis
The Techsis© application characterises one or more 3D seismic data volumes in terms of petrophysical  properties by application of a workflow to partition seismic data patterns using an Indexed Self Oprganising Map (I.S.O.M.) referenced to well-based petrophysical data.

CoreDB Import, view and manage from anywhere.

Import and manage qualitative and quantitative core resources in a robust and secure relational database. Using a standard web browser and an easy-to-use graphical interface, anyone can search, generate inventories, export... any selection of the corporate data.

Malcom Interactive Suite

Malcom© performs the quantitative analysis of complex chemical mixtures that are assayed in laboratories by gas chromatography and/or mass spectroscopy machines. The signals produced by such equipment are subject to automatic analysis within the software using unique and efficient neural network and genetic programming algorithms.
